Teacher Appreciation Week

One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings.  The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.  ~Carl Jung

This week is Teacher Appreciation week. In Mexico, we have Teacher's Day (May 15th) and usually we get invited to lunch or dinner by the schools we work at... o though it seems that the school I work at this year will not be providing with such luch/dinner. And even thought I know that I have quite a few flaws and I am still a newbie at this teaching thing, I want to give a big THANK YOU to all those teachers who have inspired me throughout this life. I hope that they gave the same inspiration to others as they did to me.

They say that those who can't do teach. I say, put all those people who CAN do in a room with eager minds with different needs and try to show them how to do those things you know how to do, then we'll talk. Teaching is more than coming day-in-day-out, give a class and off you go to get a paycheck. To me, teaching is pouring your heart and soul into a classroom and hoping that you have made a difference in someone's life. Teaching is listening to the needs of your students; it's opening their minds to the world of awe and wonder. It's making sure they understand the material you're trying to show them. A teacher is a guide... and there are a lot of people out there who don't deserve that kind of power.

There is a poem I would like to share with you. It tells everything I would like to say about what a teacher does. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did...

What Teachers Make, or
Objection Overruled, or
If things don't work out, you can always go to law school

By Taylor Mali
www.taylormali.com

He says the problem with teachers is, "What's a kid going to learn
from someone who decided his best option in life was to
become a teacher?"
He reminds the other dinner guests that it's true what they say about
teachers:
Those who can, do; those who can't, teach.

I decide to bite my tongue instead of his
and resist the temptation to remind the other dinner guests
that it's also true what they say about lawyers.

Because we're eating, after all, and this is polite company.

"I mean, you¹re a teacher, Taylor," he says.
"Be honest. What do you make?"
And I wish he hadn't done that
(asked me to be honest)
because, you see, I have a policy
about honesty and ass-kicking:
if you ask for it, I have to let you have it.

You want to know what I make?

I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could.
I can make a C+ feel like a Congressional medal of honor
and an A- feel like a slap in the face.
How dare you waste my time with anything less than your very best.

I make kids sit through 40 minutes of study hall
in absolute silence. No, you may not work in groups.
No, you may not ask a question.
Why won't I let you get a drink of water?
Because you're not thirsty, you're bored, that's why.

I make parents tremble in fear when I call home:
I hope I haven't called at a bad time,
I just wanted to talk to you about something Billy said today.
Billy said, "Leave the kid alone. I still cry sometimes, don't you?"
And it was the noblest act of courage I have ever seen.

I make parents see their children for who they are
and what they can be.

You want to know what I make?

I make kids wonder,
I make them question.
I make them criticize.
I make them apologize and mean it.
I make them write, write, write.
And then I make them read.

I make them spell definitely beautiful, definitely beautiful, definitely
beautiful over and over and over again until they will never
misspell either one of those words again.
I make them show all their work in math.
And hide it on their final drafts in English.

I make them understand that if you got this (brains)
then you follow this (heart)
and if someone ever tries to judge you
by what you make, you give them this (the finger).

Let me break it down for you, so you know what I say is true:
I make a goddamn difference! What about you?

ESL Webpages --- Coz We're Not Afraid!!!

I want to make these shirts for my teachers this year....

Anyways... This post is to mainly place some websites that I have found to be quite useful. They are filled with worksheets, flashcards, game ideas... all your esl needs.. well, maybe not all, I mean, you still need coffee, patience, and a LOT of candy to stand the headache that is students whose English is worse than those you find in a crack-addicted monkey... Seriously! I bet it is easier to teach THESE monkeys than the students I am comparing them to...  I hope the pages are useful... and if you have more, please let me know!

Bed of Roses

OOOH YEAH!!! I am so happy. Tomorrow the fates will decide on how I am going to get all goodies next year. If you haven't read the brawl I had with Marco, scroll down and see what it's all about.

On Monday, the meeting with teachers to show them how the new on line system would work took place. In the morning it was a packed house, and I was v. happy to see that most teachers were grateful for the opportunity -- not many have approached me to answer or clear the questions, right? But hey! I'm where for when they need it. So, in the afternoon, however, teacher absence was pretty much noticeable. Out of 30 teachers giving class in the afternoon, only 17 showed up... amongst those who failed to show was Mr. Marco.

After the meeting, the head guy asked me if I could stay because the Foreign Commerce teachers were going to have a meeting and they wanted to see if I could help them in some issues concerning foreign languages. I said sure, I'll stay... and as they started to point out the needs of the dept., it came to me on how Marco had bitched and complained about his idea of giving administration classes in English and how the principal and the coordinators had told him "later". So when it came time to ask me if it was possible for us as a dept. to give them some tutoring so they could give some of the commerce and administration classes in English, I suggested to give a full module in English in Business Use and Lingo AND that I could see if the BEC test was available through my International House channels. They where all thrilled with the idea.

I don't know if someone has already told Mr. Marco about this... but I'm pretty sure he's going to be not at all happy about it. I mean, he will say that it was his idea in the first place... and that he should be the one giving the class. But (a) he is not qualified/certified as an English ESOL teacher, and (b) he does not have the time to give the class. Plus, I think that the BEC exam will do more wonders for Administration students (and Commerce as well) than TOEFL does.

We'll see what develops on this part of the novel --- tomorrow at 9 in the morning.

Sell Your Soul...

Baaah! Yesterday was an old-fashioned brawl between me and a teacher here who shall-remain-nameless but whom I shall call Annoying Brat... Marco for short.

The whole on line thing with the university has gotten some people's panties up in their crotch and somehow they're blaming me for it. In a way, I think that the fact that I am _actually doing_ things that I set out to do in the first place and that are now in their "harvest time" has gotten them all up in arms. But is it my fault that these people have been here longer than I have and have achieved to nothing? Heck no! I do what I do and I thrive on a challenge. So, Marco came yesterday, bitching and whining because there is going to be a meeting on the 16th (which is a day off according to the SEP calendar) of ONE HOUR TOPS for me to tell them how the new system is going to operate and stuff... and he's all up in arms because "I do not own his time" and "This is not even planned... they didn't even tell us about it! I didn't know about until yesterday a teacher told me...and asked me if I knew..." I told him that first of all, stop bitching and whining about it because I DID NOT SET THE DATE NOR THE TIME FOR THIS... and secondly? The English Dept. has been working with the on line format for a year-and-a-half now. It's not a "quickie", it's a format that has actually WORKED in our dept. And when the University's Head Dean asked if we were managing something akin to an on-line database, everyone said "no" and I said "yes"... so, is it my fault that the other depts. have not gotten into the technology groove? NO! So then he goes on to say that the school was always doing bogus things -- and that good projects like his Administration in English class was sitting on a desk for 4 years. I blew up at this. I said "If you wanted to give that class so much, why didn't you? Why did you wait until they said "yes" for you to take the reign of the horse and start driving the wagon? Do you think that they said yes to the on-line classes when I proposed them to the head dean two years ago? Heck no! Did that stop me from doing it? Heck no! If I was to wait until someone told me to do something, hell, not even the teaching courses would have taken off!! So, suck it up and shut the hell up. You say this university is bogus? You give classes in the Fucking CU for crying out loud!!! You CAN'T get more BOGUS than the CU!!! And all this that you didn't know? We had a meeting. Did you go? No! Why? I don't know -- most of the teachers where there! So, if you are the one with problems with the Academics coordinator, not my problem. If you cannot communicate with your own dept. colleagues, not my problem either. I do what I have to do for MY teachers, MY department to run as smoothly as I can, even against all the crap that sometimes I have to put up with. So, if you don't wanna come to that meeting, DON'T COME."

He was all red and pissed about it. He began telling me how he was a manager at some big-shot maquila and that what we were doing was jumping over processes that later would come and bite us. I told him to suck it up and be a man and that got him even more upset. But --- it's just surprising to me how the YOUNGER teachers around here are all up in arms about this thing and the ELDER teachers are all open and welcoming.

Here's a piece of advice to all teachers out there: Yes, technology WILL NEVER SUBSTITUTE A TEACHER... BUT a teacher who KNOWS how to USE technology WILL substitute one who doesn't. Move along with the times, people! You cannot expect to teach and be all static there, just waiting for the world to stop so you can catch up to it!

.... So, the song that started playing in my head yesterday was "Sell your Soul" by Hollywood Undead... Sometimes I do feel like this.

I'm holding on so tightly now,
my insides scream so loud
They can watchin',
watchin' me drown,
how did it come to this?

How did it come to this?
how did i know it was you?
it was a bad dream, asphyxiated watch me bleed
the life support was cut
the knot was too tight,
they push and pull but they know they'll never win!!

CHORUS:
throw it all away! throw it all away!
I keep on screamin but theres really nothing left to say!
So get away, just get away!
I keep on fightin but i can't keep going on like this!

I can't keep going, can't keep going on like this,
and I get so sick of it,
cuz they wont let me, they wont let me breath,
why can't they let me be?

why can't they let me be?
why don't I know what I am?
I force this hate into my heart cuz its my only friend!
My lips are sewn shut!
I watch my self bleed...
they push and pull and its killing me within!!

[Chorus]

I can't keep going, can't keep going on this way

My heart beat stumbles and my back bone crumbles
I feel is it real as the lynch mob doubles
they want blood and they'll kill for it,
drain me and they'll kneel for it
burn me at the stake met the devil made the deal for it,
guiteens dreams ya they're guiteen gleems,
the blood of they're enemies watchin while they sense me,
sentencing decease sentence decease and watch them bask in the glory of their holy disease

[Chorus]
I keep on runnin,
i keep on runnin,
but i can't keep going on this way

Dangling Daisies

It's Monday and thus, this panda's day has just begun to sound a lot like one of them days...

People from Chihuahua are still baffled on the fact that I am doing so much for my department in so little time. The thing is that I cannot help but to be efficient when they need me to be. I mean, it's my JOB to bring teachers their materials, and bring them certification courses, and make them happy by working with resources and giving them a raise. After all, a happy teacher teaches great classes... Next October 10th is the certification examination. I wanna see their faces...

Sigh!!! I'm sort of bored!!!

Over the weeekend I saw Mujeres Asesinas 2 -- The Gala. It was a good show.. I mean, with nothing else to watch.. and I heard Gloria Trevi's song for the series. I must confess, I liked it very much.

My Person's B Day Is Today!

ANGIE'S B DAY IS TODAY!!!

Angie is my best friend... she's actually kind of busy now, working her ass off for her MA... but I hope that maybe next week I can take her out for dinner since she took me and all -- Love ya angie!!

This week is crazy b day week. Joel's b day was on the 8th, then it's Angie's, then it's Eidrien's on the 11th. It was said that we might throw a party on the 12th, but things are looking cloudy on my end (as I am left penniless after paying all that I owe) and can only afford next week on the 15th a get-together partee.

I wish there was a way to make students learn English by just tapping them in the head... or by spanking them! Wouldn't that be awesome? The more you spanked, the more English the student learned! Of course, you would get into all sorts of legal issues and stuff -- but the important thing is that they are learning!!! ^____^ That would make me ubber happy!!

The name game

I am at my psyche class -- The teacher who came last two weeks was a far better teacher than this clown! This is boring! He keeps talking about his own research and does not allow us to expose our own state of mind. What this clown does not know is that we're all in cahoots with each other: we want the other teacher. He actually TEACHES Psyche in education.

Yesterday was a very hectic day. The books have arrived and now starts the circus of getting students to buy their book. I feel like a mobster threatening lives for this book... or in this case, GRADES. I threaten students with grades... Yes, I know.

There was also the Cambridge course on Independent Learning to which i asked (I do not want to say "TOLD" because that would sound more like a lame-ass dictator) my teachers to go. Who went? Miss Carmen... when the course was over. So basically, no one got there. Sad part was that it seemed that everyone forgot about it. Okay, so next time I'll TELL them and make them sign their soul in blood to me. I don't want to go all Satan here, but it seems that this is the way I have to do this.

I am sleepy... and in the mood for fatties..mmmmmmmmm

Teacher's Day!!!

Well, today in Mexico is Teacher's Day -- a day dedicated to celebrate all those who have given their lives on to the formation of other's minds, souls, spirits, paths, etc. So, today I had no classes.

But --- who was that teacher that inspired you, taught you, MEANT something in your life?

I've had hundreds... well, that's a little over dramatic. I've had quite a few. From Elementary school, Jr High, High School, and all the way through College, the good ones have provided that extra thing that made me be the person who I am right now. And it's in their shadow that I am now a teacher for younger generations of students. I want to think that I am one of those teachers who can be called upon later on and some student will say "Remember Miss Rain? Oh! She was the best teacher I've ever had..."

So, in honor of Miss Berta (5th grade), Miss Francisca (Workshop, Jr High), Mr. Zuniga (math, Jr High), Mr Alejandro (Communications, High School), Miss Elvia (Biology, High School), Miss Silvia (Math, High School), Mr. Carlos (Literature, High school), Mr. Estrada (Writing Workshop, High school), Mr. Cadena (Philosophy, high school), Dr. Perez Casio (Swine medicine, college UACJ), Dr. Trejo (Pathology, college UACJ -- RIP), Dr. Montoya (Dog and Cat Medicine, UACJ), Dr. Alonso (Clinical Lab, UACJ), Dr. Salais (Anatomy, UACJ), Jaime Balleres (Photography, UACJ)... ALL OF YOU --- THANK YOU!!!! ^_______________^

18 and Life we got'em...

If they thing I was playing nice... Get a load of this!

So, today was the start of the new module at the URN. Morning class started at 8 am and as usual, I was here at that hour to check on mah teachers and see that everything was smooth sailing. After all, I was very upset on Friday, when I found out that the computers that they had promised were going to be for the English Department were given, in fact, to the Industrial Engineering people because of some fudddy duddy program (AUTOCARD!) that they needed to do. I decided that being pissed off at people was not going to solve my problems, and instead started to design a strategy to (a) get the Head Dean's attention towards the problem and (b).. well, (a) pretty much covers it. So, with this in mind (and because I pointed my cursing finger at them --- sorry God) I came to work only to find out that three out of five graphic design students that are taking the English VIII class with Mr. Larios have failed. WTF? These kids have been in my class before and I don't consider them to be dumb kids. So this panda did what she does best and went to the field to investigate. Turns out that they not only failed English, but they also failed three of their G.D. classes. Oh my God! Me and Mr Larios went to talk thinks over with the Principal guy. These kids are about to graduate and now, thanks to their lack of responsibility they are in the brink of being held back one year... ONE YEAR! Not even one semester! HO-LY shit indeed. So tomorrow, they are going to talk to the group to see what the heck are they gonna do. They're gonna give 'em one shot at being happy... or at least of not being left behind.

In other news...

I have come to the conclusion that some people you just can't help them have a life or change their life for the better. Case in mind? Catholic-Geek from my Leadership class. This lady was not only NOT listening to what I was saying in the Ben Franklin presentation (when I talked about his book, "An Autobiography"), but she actually quoted parts of the book that I had already said! I mean, com'on! And then she keeps her computer open at all times and chats her little soul away during class. I mean, are you here for the free INTERNET or to take a MASTER'S DEGREE IN EDUCATION class? Because I think there is a difference. I mean, when you criticize a class based on the "religious" belief that "a leader should be someone who does GOOD, not EVIL"... then... I ... Whaaaa??

A LEADER is someone who can take charge and take his or her people through his or her system of belief. It is not our place to judge if they are good or evil. A leader is a good leader, regardless if they are for the good of mankind or not.

At least that's how I understand it...

Or what do you think?

The First Day of... well, it's still too early.

It's still too early to tell... but it's Aunt Nina, so you never know what can happen around her.

Aunt Nina came from California and already she has made my bed and the couch her home. It's not that she's aunt Nina -- but the constant nagging is what makes her unique amongst the aunts. She has already met with Aunt Yolanda and Aunt Gaby and has already managed to annoy the heck out of both of them. According to my cousin Edgar, there will be a family reunion on Easter Sunday... is it? I can't remember if he said it was gonna be on Sunday or Good Friday. The thing is that we're gonna have the traditional Chairez Lent feast: PORK AND CARNE ASADA!!! SHEAH! -- I kid. It's gonna be capirotada, chiles rellenos (with tuna), lentejas, tortitas de camaron... and salad. Out of all these items, this panda will probably just dig into the salad because the bad thing about this whole ordeal (yes, there is such a thing as a bad thing in the Lent season) is that my mother was commissioned to do the capirotada and none of us has the courage/heart to tell her that her capirotada sucks.

School's doing okay. The big rustle was that the Academic coordinator FORGOT to place Miss Yesmin on the payroll. She just oops! forgot! And Miss Yesmin was in danger of not getting paid not only this last two weeks (we get paid every two weeks here), but also the two weeks of vacations we're gonna have in the morning! Unbelievable nerve of this woman! I know she's a little pregnant... but I swear, that baby must be sucking her brains out! Gladly, I could arrange it with the administrator her and Miss Yesmin will happily receive a check for her trouble.

Oh! And remember the CENEVAL deal? Well, since Mr Juarez (AKA the Squirrel) did not get up and move it move it, there was no promo for it (and the little promo that it was for it it was all screwed up with the 24 hour day and the costs of more than 2000 dollars) well, the courses will not take place. And it was a good idea. Now I am focusing my mantra energies of the FORCE on the conversational English. I have two groups now (one of them comes from the UACJ but I don't wanna tell the Squirrel of my boss 'till the deal is sealed -- they want to prepare for the TOEFL as they're about to finish their MA and do not know anything about this test) and I plan to make some extra dough out of them.

I am going to present next Saturday on my Leadership class! I am preparing the material! Yeeey! I wanna raise the bar so that my classmates know the kind of limits my imagination can go... and the level of nerdyness my brain has (is it "nerdiness" or "nerdyness"... is NERD-Y/I-NESS even a WORD??) So, I am very psyched about that. And on the communications class, I have to research a little bit on how mass media affects society. Hah! I am sure glad I listened to all those hours of talk radio now! Thank you!!!

I am sleepy yet happy...

Sorry about the Images... BUT

As you can see, Blogger is screwing with this panda's images. I've already posted a "Please help me" thingie on the thingie where you ask for help. I'll check it out later on.

Today was very difficult. The TKT is going to drive me crazy but I have faith that everything will work out for the better. We're down 25 000 pesos. That means that we are missing that amount to pay for the tests. Breathe in, breathe out.

Ok... If I had known that the promotions dept. of the University was going to get 16 000 pesos paid FOR DOING NOTHING... then I would have done the same thing. Who was the one who was calling people in the first place? Who pushed and pushed for the course to take place? To go door-to-door (or, rather school-to-school) promoting this thing? Well, I'll tell you, it wasn't promotions. They did a magnificent promotions deal with 5 posters... 5!! Do you know how many schools I visited to promote this thing?! 30! 5 posters... and they got 16 000 pesos for it (16 000 translates roughly as 1400 US moolah, which is still a lot). So, to move the brain wave twisting thingie... I have to contact Cambridge to get a late fee to pay for the tests a little later on. Then, I have to contact the International House people to tell them how much time I managed to BEG Cambridge for. Then, talk to teachers... My teachers paid a little less than the rest of the group, so I'll be asking for their cooperation. A lot of stuff to do in less than three days.

Time to blog? Yes... oh yes.

After toying with idea that maybe the google thingie has problems, and that maybe those problems derive from the fact that my school's internet support is saying that the address is filtering violation... then maybe that explains a lot. I have here a picture I have done and posted over at DeviantART (yuvia.deviantart.com) called "JUAREZ".

... I have to do these sorts of images... or else the coo-coo bananas in me starts going amok.

Reboot, Reload... It's like The MATRIX!!!!

And as did Jesus walked amongst the living on the third day, my computer gets all better on the third day as well.

---- TOPICS OF THE DAY----
(And the toopics for the day
will embrace your brain today
and the suuuun won't set for youuuuu)

Topic No. 1: Monday -- I hate blue Mondays. But today was gray --- it was cloudy.

Topic No. 2: English VII students in the afternoon have an on and off love relationship with their teacher. The guy gets here late, and granted, they have things to do and he shouldn't be here late, but when he calls and tells them that he's on his way and then he gets here and the students are not, then how in the world am I supposed to defend them. I mean, what would you do? What would Jesus' dog do?

Topic No. 3: The books are here. I managed to get the book distributor to send us some books. The student body has one week to get them. They are going to use these books next module too. I have down price them from 300 pesos to 240. Are they taking it seriously? Of course not!

Topic No. 4: Cake
. I wanted Mr David's cake today. It's his B-Day (happee B day David!) He's OLD AS DIRT!!! (34 in Panda years). On Saturday (David's non-official birthday party), a topic came into mind as we were playing spin the bottle in which the idea of having Nietzsche and Marx tattooed on ass and then moving ass to make them kiss was somewhat disturbing.

Topic No. 5: Pandas still ROCK!!! (better than chickens and kick koalas ass any day)

Topic No. 6: Almost burned house down while lighting a candle yesterday
. Mother was upset because of it. Next time, I'll just let the flame burn my hand and fingers to a crisp, MOM!

Topic No. 7: Dad does not want to go to Doctor
. We are tying him up and DRAGGING him... by his nuts if necessary.

Topic No. 8: Miguel Bose is NOT GAY
... and even if he is, he's still DAMN HOT.

Topic No. 9: Cuaresma food sucks
! (No wonder it's a penance)

Topic No. 10: Several cantinas closed during the weekend
. The Chamucos and the Ole are the most popular ones in the list. They closed because of minors inside the premises. Meanwhile, the skank-ass hole called El Gallito is still open for business and showing 89-year-old strippers hunch down using a nail...

oh yeah... and on saturday? Mr David had another cake and we used an ELMO candle... it was funny to see his eyes melt...

"BURN! You USELESS CUTE MUPPET!" -- Paul's quote as Elmo began to cry

Crashing down

Holy Mother----!! My computer crashed yesterday afternoon. Most of the files I had were recovered... but my pandas and the programs I had on this computer were goooone... Yeah, I know - I should get an external drive. I _know_ but I am such a klutz that I will lose it. I just know it.

So today, at coffee shop, downloading what I can.

School has been okay. Oh! On Friday, we had the meeting with the High School district. It went superb... The funny moment came when one of the teachers recognized me from ye old high school days. I think that in part this was one of the main reasons why they got so charmingly open -- he was very proud of me having being one of his students. Actually, three of my old teachers were there. No longer teachers, they all are now directives. Good for them! So now, the university has open doors to the Colegio de Bachilleres schools. I think this is very good indeed. Then, as we got back to school grounds, the Graphic Design class had organized a hamburger broil-out to welcome the new students on to the campus. It was fun to be around them, listening to all their hopes and aspirations as they embark on this new adventure in their lives. I sure hope that they continue with those high spirits all the way through.

A brand-new week is upon us. I think it will be rather interesting to see it. It's the last week of the evening class.

Bad Bad Students!

Twenty five minutes later, my students show up for their SECOND day of class. I just put up a very comprehensive smile and proceeded to remind them that they had already 2 missed classes. Three more, and they were GONE.

This did not have a happy effect on them. They went on a rant about how they _paid_ for school and basically the "who the fuck is you---?" deal. Yeah, you pay for classes... not for goofing off.

I was wondering what is Valentine's day today gonna look like.

I was tempted on going all pathetic and send myself some flowers... then again, that would be selling myself short, so I'll send me flowers and chocolate...

JEWELRY?! Are you crazy! I can't afford gasoline for my car, much less jewelry on myself! haha!

TOP 5 IDEAS TO SEND YOURSELF ON VALENTINES DAY

5. Flowers and candy? HOW LAME! I'll send myself a PACK OF CONDOMS with a note that says "See you tonight, SEXY!"

4. A bottle of cheap-ass vodka that says "drink yourself silly and imagine your date easier"

3. Vicodin

2. A hooker! And make him dance the hootie dootie on top of your desk. Call on your friends and say "see? He LIKES ME!"

1. A hooker that brings condoms, a bottle of cheap ass vodka and drink your ass off while popping frigging vicodin like multi-vitamins.

TKT -- Live from Module III!

Teaching is the profession that teaches all the other professions

Live, from Juarez, it's TKT Module III! Teachers from all over the city came to take part of this course and realize that they still have a lot to learn.

Teacher's Knowledge Test is a Cambridge certification course that basically certifies teachers to teach English as a second language. In Mexico, all English teachers must be certified as ESL teachers in order to teach... in theory (we all know that this detail does not happen).

So, today is the milestone. These people who are here do not know of the hard work it has taken to bring this course to Juarez. Why? Because not everyone wanted to come by and teach it, that's why. And We have an EXCELLENT teacher in Margarita. Gonna take pics tomorrow and upload them.

Teachers getting ready.

Teachers becoming students and getting ready to rumble.

Hell yeah.

It's HOT

I hate this. I mean, I expect January to have wintery weather, not the heat wave.

Oh well... I guess I'll have to sigh away my wishes that it snows in Juarez any time soon. I mean, what the heck am I expecting if we live in the desert?

Classes will begin next week. This weekend, however, is the Teacher's Knowledge Test certification module III class. Basically, a person from Mexico city flies in and gives the course to 25 teachers who inscribed in it so that at the end we do this Cambridge certification test and get our certification as teachers. It's kind of cool, I mean, there is nothing as funny as the sight of teachers suddenly becoming the student and facing the fact that there are some things that they had no idea they were teaching ("I know that -- I just didn't know what it was CALLED!")

Teachers --- they crack me up.
