Halloween 2010

As always, this panda and her peeps had a Halloween party/ reunion. This town stresses out enough to make us want to dress up and go out... To the Katsura.

The Katsura is a japanese restaurant in Juarez. We deiced to meet there for dinner... in full getup. I dressed up as a Guardan Devil. Yeah, that's me on the red cape and horns. Mr God is the one dressed as a monk (or a mexican jedi, whatever gets you through the day) Siky is the witch, Adi is Misses Mia Wallace and Ish is the ostrich man. We met at the Katsura with Miss Liliana (who was dressed as a UTEP student jajajajjaja) and ate yummy sushi. After that, it was back at the Octopuss' Garden to watch a spooky movie.

The movie in cuestion was ALONE, a Corean movie about this girl who has a twin joined at the tummy who kills her because she falls in love... it was sort of sweet. After that, it was decided to go to Adi's place to play Rock Band... 3!!! :D I was very happy!!! I love Rock Band, I LOVE Rock Band 3 --- mainly because it has more songs I know and can sing to. So far, I have made "Just Like Heaven" another Rainy classic!!

I am vesy psyched about the game. Loooove the graphics!!!

Also, NaNoWriMo started a couple of minutes ago. I already submitted some of the words I have written -- yeah, before you start on "that's cheating!", let me just say that everybody does it and it's not like the thing is even half way through! i have to work very hard on it still... and I can't just start rambling word after word! I have to make it sound good! I have a reputation to keep here peeps!!!

So, Halloween 2010 was happy, --- oh! I almost forgot to tell the story about the candles!

Turns out that I went to Rio Grande mall to buy some quartz on the little store that was left open. where they sell candles and incense. Turns out that they sell candles, incense, quartzes... well, let's just say they sell a lot of the stuff I use for my stuff... when the lady at the counter says "You know, we have candles for the santisima...." and in my lingo, this means "The Santisima Muerte". So I just nodd politely and say "thank you, but no...." and then she starts going on about how we should all pray for the violence in juarez to stop. "Well, I have an altar for my saint, you should pray to whomever you pray to... and I think that amongst us all we can pray for the peace in our town! We should join forces... pagans, christians, catholics, and all --- we should join forces and we can move mountains". I was looking at this lady with a look of "poor crazy lady" but then i realized she was talking serious,. It did not sound bad coming from her --- let's join forces so we can pray to our saints, devils, angels, gods, and goddesses.... I am sure that one of them will listen, take a peek and help us out.

In the Middle of the Night

I don't know what happened... I woke up this morning, on the floor. Apparently, I fell off the bed during the night and didn't notice until I found the floor hard.. cold...and I laughed myself silly. A cramp began in my leg and I couldn't get up. This made me laugh even more. What the heck?! I can't remember what I was dreaming, but it must have been something weird, I mean, knowing myself.

I fell off my bed... what kind of psycho-somatic dream must I have?

ESL Webpages --- Coz We're Not Afraid!!!

I want to make these shirts for my teachers this year....

Anyways... This post is to mainly place some websites that I have found to be quite useful. They are filled with worksheets, flashcards, game ideas... all your esl needs.. well, maybe not all, I mean, you still need coffee, patience, and a LOT of candy to stand the headache that is students whose English is worse than those you find in a crack-addicted monkey... Seriously! I bet it is easier to teach THESE monkeys than the students I am comparing them to...  I hope the pages are useful... and if you have more, please let me know!

Done!!!

After all this time, this is finaly done!! My page has been re-arranged, facelift and all. The background is in the spirit of the season --- and the banner! I think that was the hardest thing to do, as I needed some inspiration to do it... and I have to thank the "This is Halloween" song from The Nightmare Before Christmas movie.

So today was a very exciting day... well, actually the week has been nothing but a thrill ride. We start off on Monday, or as it will go down in Panda history as the day when my students decided that they could skip on their final presentation without me getting back at them. I had no classes all day because most students decided to go to this conference without warning me and then when I did have a class it was mainly presentations. I don't even know why I bother on telling them that they can choose any subject they want, they always hover back to the environment, animals, nature, or technology. But today, oh, today one of the girls decided that her topic was going to be talking about serial killer John Wayne Gacey, AKA Pogo the clown... It was kind of spooky, not to mention out of the ordinary and twisted! So, one for creativity. Then, another student presented a very good presentation about movies. It was good because he didn't read the entire thing and he spoke about the movie genres... o though I am in a moral debate because I don't know whether to comend him for this presentation or to kick his ass because neither Grease was mention in Musical, nor Star Wars in SciFi...

But Halloween is almost here!! I love this time of year! Particularly because of the food and the traditions that come with it. So, I will dedicate some part of this blog to post some stuff about Halloween... mostly recipes... and stories!!

From Reader's Digest, here is a wonderful recepie for Halloween Cookies! (gonna try to bake them this year!)

Cookies are a favorite for any occasion. Make these for trick-or-treaters, take them to a school or church bazaar or fill a tin for a neighbor. Add names to the ghosts to use at place settings. You can even use these cookie cutters to make special lunchbox sandwiches -- just cut shapes from bread and add peanut butter.

You Will Need
Halloween cookie cutters: BOO, EEK and ghost shapes (available from www.wilton.com)
Tube of black icing gel, to outline BOO and EEK cookies and add features to ghosts
Orange and black paste food colors to color dough

Royal Icing for ghost cookies (see recipe, Step 11)
Pastry brush

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 teaspoons baking powder
3 cups all-purpose flour
Egg yolk for solid orange cookies

What to Do
1. Preheat oven to 400°F.

2. In large bowl, cream butter and sugar with an electric mixer. Beat in egg and vanilla.

3. Add baking powder and then flour one cup at a time, mixing after each addition. The dough will be very stiff. Blend last flour in by hand. (If necessary add a little water to dough if crumbly.) Do not chill dough.

4. Divide dough into three balls. Set one aside and leave uncolored. Knead or mix orange food color in the second ball and black food color into the third. Cover each ball with plastic wrap and keep covered when not working with it.

5. For all cookies, roll dough slightly thinner than the cutter.

6. To make uncolored cookies, roll dough and cut various shapes.

7. To make striped cookies, roll sections of colored and uncolored dough together, side by side, and then cut out cookies. (They will look like the orange, black and white BOO and EEK cookies in photo, above.)

8. For the orange BOO and EEK cookies, use uncolored dough. After cutting out shapes, mix orange food color with egg yolk and "paint" cookies with pastry brush before baking.

9. Place cookies on ungreased cookie sheet and bake 15-20 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool 5 minutes, then remove and cool completely on a rack.

Recipe makes 3-4 dozen cookies.

Icing the Cookies
10. To decorate BOO and EEK cookies, outline baked cookies with black icing gel as shown in photo.

11. For ghost cookies, leave uncolored and add features with black icing gel or color white with Royal Icing made as follows:
3 egg whites, 1 pound confectioners' sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar. Beat all ingredients at high speed for 7 to 10 minutes or until icing forms stiff peaks. To thin, add 3 to 4 tablespoons water, a small amount at a time until icing is the consistency of heavy cream.
"Paint" icing on ghost shapes with a pastry brush.

Recipe will ice 2 dozen cookies.

Rainypalooza 2010

Rainypalooza is a party that happens every year... and that has been happening for five years now... Some people get the invites, some don't, but we always have a great time. This time, it was the Octopus' Garden who opened their arms and welcomed us to enjoy this celebration.

First of all, the food served was superb!!! I mean, from the chef who marinated the meat (that would be me jejejeje) to the griller (Mr David!) it was good! I wanted to celebrate the five years this panda has in her age bank, so for each year it was 1 kilo of my favorite meat cuts. sirloin, rib-eye, arrachera, grilling steak, and costillar, Adding the sausages and the tortillas... oooh and the cebollitas with cheese-filled chiles... but, com'on! for those who where there, you have to admit, the Chipotle salsita was The Best. I made about 1 lt of the stuff and it was gone in less than 30 mins! and the grilled meat wasn't even in the grill yet!! I also added some chicken just in case someone wanted some chicken. Alas, no one wanted some, so we ate the chicken next day, while watching the Manning vs Manning Bowl 2.0.

The music was provided by ye Old Stereo... and of course, Beatles were in the house! since it's my party and I'll cry if I want to, Beatles records were played... then we got a little bit drunker and then it was the Stones and Charlie Parker, but mostly Beatles. Whomever did not enjoy the music can go suck a lemon because the Beatles rock. Period.

My sister made some candy bags and placed condoms in them! so it was the C&C bags,,, Candy and condoms. I still have some candy bags left. No condoms, however jejejejeje.

Even though I did invite a whole bunch of people, only those who always come to the party showed up, even though we even did an RSVP thing to it. Some might have forgotten (thaks a lot!) and others might have more important things to do, but nevertheless, even though there weren't many of us, the important thing is that we got drunk, we ate like pigs, and listened to good music. It was sad that some people made themselves look crazy (se hicieron loquitas) and did not provide with the cake they promised to (... mother....) and it was also a bummer that there were no ponies... I forgot the pony stick... BUT for those of you who stayed, there was a water balloon fight as promised!!! Too bad that some had to go because (a) they were tired, (b) they had to get home early, or (c)... I don't know what the F was going on.

So, as far as the organizers go, Rainypalooza 2010 was a success! Next year, we promise to be a super-mega  blast, as Rainypalooza will be taking the next step into awesomeness. I just hope that we're all still alive and well.

See you all in Rainypalooza 2011!!! :D

San Lorenzo 2010

San Lorenzo no te deja caer y no te deja solo. Me consta.

Summer Tour

Hello my fellow Monkey Jov Fans!!!

This tour has made this panda a bit tired. Last night I had a serious discussion with the band's manager. I told her that she had taken me out of China with promises of fame and fortune, instead I'm being delivered in a box and fed a little stick of bamboo because according to her, out of the 10 bucks we made in our last gig, 9 went on to fixing the drum set and 1 was left to pay for my box cleanage.

Monkey Jov has been touring all over Europe this summer. At first I didn't want to go because last time we toured I was so happy and excited when they told me we were taking a plane and then it turned out that they don't allow pandas in the plane (or at least that was what the road manager told me) and I had to travel in a wooden box with a lot of holes that later on turned out to not only be my means of transportation to every city we went, but my hotel room as well. Anyways, I was a little skeptical about it but then Sukiina talked me into going beacuse we were going to do a photo shoot for the album cover and I was all in. This time, I traveled in the passanger seat and I almost pooped mah pants when I peeked through the windows. Now I know, pandas and plane windows do not mix.

Adrianne and Ish were not coming along though. They decided to take time off to relish on their love and relationship and are right now in San Diego-Tijuana. It has become an issue of weirdness between me and Sukiina and Dave, since they have to hire a new bass player and a roadie for each gig and somehow I end-up  hooking up with either one. I really liked Josh, the guy they hired for the Berlin gig. He had nice hair. But I couldn't keep him around because the gig things are for one stadium at a time. No one stays long. Adrianne and Ish are irreplasable. Easy for Sukiina and Dave to say, they actually share a room whereas I have to spend the night on the launge chairs down by the pool...

But Berlin was cool and so was Paris. I did not enjoy Ireland because a magazine guy said we were doing something called overdrive and we had to prove that we were the real thing? Sukiina insisted on playing songs that were hard for me -- and yes, I am a good drum player, but I was still jetlagged from the trip and it was such a mess! Then the band manager was upset because the performance was not "five stars". I got no bamboo. I did, however, get to go shopping in Berlin and got new outfits and pretty silver chains in my wrist. That made me happy -- so much that I forgave the bad-quality bamboo I found later on my launge chair next to the pool. Berlin has cool stores and cool fans that wait for you outside the bars and sing along with you. Oh! and the photo shoot was scary! I think I came out looking like someone was chasing me... but the photographer said it was a good enough picture and they are going to use it on the album cover.

Yesterday we got a new roady, his name is Diesel... he seems all tough and all, but he is afraid of spiders. I will get a rubber spider on our next day off and will tease 'till he cries like a little girl. I only wish that they decided to stick with a bass player like they have done with Diesel! I feel lonely with Sukiina and Dave taking their day off for themselves and I am left to either soak in the pool or to go by myself around the city. That is why I liked Josh, because he was kind enough to show me around Berlin... aside other fine attributes! ;)

I think we go back to the States tomorrow or on Wednesday. I cannot wait to get back home! I miss my cat, my dog and my own bed. I love the pools in the hotels, but I sometimes fall asleep in the pool and that can be quite dangerous. Life on the road is not easy, but it sure is a lot of fun! :D Oh, and before I forget, the album comes out in January so be ready to be taken by the storm that is Monkey Jov. We have taken the raw sound we have on stage and place it in vynil. I was wondering why we had to do it in vynil, and Dave explained that the best rock groups always recorded their legend in vynil... I believe him, mainly because he sounds convincing when he explains it.

Talk to you later! I have to get ready for my vet visit!

Love,
Miss Panda

Jutsu-Me The After Shock Part 1

Well, as I've said, the Jutsu-Me came and went and now it's time to look back and remember all the good times. So far, I have not received any picture from the people who attended, but I still keep my hopes up in to that I shall get some... for now, I have the pictures I snatched (yes, that is the correct word) from the Neovolution TV page. They were sponsors/organizators/idea crafters of the Jutsume 2010...

One of the promotional posters for the Jutsume... I liked the one that Issaac did best...

This little girl won the WII... she was the cutest thing! She wore a LUIGI from Mario Bros. Cosplay! XD

Luigi girl and the guy who won the PS3... I tell you, that PS3 didn't seem to want to leave the University's premises! It took almost FIVE tickets to get it to go!!! XD

When I saw the cat costume, I thought... "Could it be....??" and IT WAS!! SPINNEL SUN from Cardcaptor Sakura!!! I thought this was the BEST costume... but then again, who am I to judge??? Unfortunatelly for me, I have no clue on who the other two are... but the chubby one in the middle did the funniest walk! XD

This is Pablo Calderón. I don't know if he ACTUALLY finished Graphic Design at the UACJ, but I knew him back then as a designer student... and now, here he is, dressed in his COSPLAY thing... I have no idea who he is... but he won the Cosplay contest. He is also known as the COSPLAY BULLY because he ALWAYS wins Cosplay... Luv his cosplays though...

A Panda favorite, Sesshomaru from the INUYASHA series. This girl actually PAID 70 USDLLS for the wig. She got 3rd place.

These two shared second place at the cosplay thingie. The girl with the shorts? yeah, she dresses like that to school ALL THE TIME (or so I've been told). ROUGUE was accompanied by a F.A.H.* Gambit... I shall have his picture up and posted here soon. ROUGUE came equipt with SPECIAL EFFECTS!

Here are MORE photos from the Jutsume... taken by Suky Rosales... snatched by moi...

During the event we had WORKSHOPS about how to draw cartoon style, manga style, painting, and such. I would like to thank all my friends who came through for me by giving these workshops... and promote their websites along the way:
Eduardo Varela made quite the impression by being the most crowded workshop. He told me he was working at the juvenile detention hall giving these classes... good for you!!! Adrián Dórame had the evil intentions on not doing anything, BUT I basically told him to get his ass in gear and so he gave a drawing workshop. He also did the photoshop one, but no one seemed to be interested in it... just like they were not interested in taking Angélica de la Cruz's Drawing Basics, but mainly it was because the workshop was aimed at little kids... Gabriela Avila also gave a workshop -- painting. However, the kids were not as interested in this workshop... some got bored after five or ten minutes. Figures! This X-Box generation has little patience, if any. Marisol Valle and her BF, Carlo Lofaro, gave the cosplay/papel mache workshop and it got some attention. I only wish I had time to join them!! :( Me so sad!

The group Temporada de Patos also made their appearance, promoting their upcoming event at the Centro de Convenciones CIBELES...  It's the NATIONAL VIDEO GAME CONVENTION!!! I shall keep you posted.

656 Comics also made their presence felt by going on Saturday to give a WORKSHOP on how to make a Comicbook script. However, they did not show the next day... man! And I wanted to buy their comic so they could sign it! Oh well, I guess I shall have to wait 'till next convention!!!

Up to today, I have received ONE e-mail... happy, I share...

To be perfectly honest, I did not organize the entire thing.. I HELPED. But thank you!! XD

So now, we hope that this experience will repeat itself... even though some people may try to copy what we did, we all know that Jutsume is but ONE and ONLY!!! XD

This is the Panda... eating bamboo and signing off!!!

Pendejeta no soy.. bueno, no mucho.

GATITOS!!! Me encanta decir esa palabra.

New Year 2010

Happy new year... feliz año nuevo... bueno, ya ni tan nuevo, verdad?

God Bless America!!!

4. Fidel e'ta muelto chico? Pos dice aquí que si...

5. Mi hermana va a parir otro hijo...jajajaja no te creas palomita! Lo que vas a parir son gremlins

New Trimester --- Same old students!

Hello! Yesterday was the beginning of the new trimester at the URN. My old classmates were there -- ALL of them, which was good because we decided to stick it out for each other and finish this MA no matter what.

The class was super fun. It's Statistics applied to education, which it would usually mean for me that I need an abacus to help me out here, but the teacher has made it super easy and super fun. The four hours went by very fast. I can't wait for next friday.

Nor I can't wait for pay day! I want to go out!!

Late-Late-Tired Blog post

I am blogging from coffee shop. I am tired but since I am downloading some stuff, I figure I went ahead and post some of the funny quotes from the TV show The Big Bang Theory. This show is funny. And I mean HA-HA for 30 minutes funny. And smart. I love smart, funny shows.

Quotes

Leonard: We need to widen our circle.
Sheldon: I have a very wide circle. I have 212 friends on myspace.
Leonard: Yes, and you’ve never met one of them.
Sheldon: That’s the beauty of it.

Penny: I’m a Sagittarius, which probably tells you way more than you need to know.
Sheldon: Yes, it tells us that you participate in the mass cultural delusion that the sun’s apparent position relative to arbitrarily defined constellations at the time of your birth somehow affects your personality.
Penny: (puzzled) Participate in the what?

Sheldon: Okay, look, I think you have as much of a chance of having a sexual relationship with Penny as the Hubble telescope does of discovering that at the center of every black hole is a little man with a flashlight searching for a circuit breaker. Nevertheless, I do feel obligated to point out to you that she did not reject you. You did not ask her out.

Sheldon: I’ve spent the past three-and-a-half years staring at greaseboards full of equations; before that, I spent four years working on my thesis; before that, I was in college; and before that, I was in the fifth grade.

At a restaurant:

Sheldon: We don’t eat here, I don’t know what’s good…
Penny: Well, it’s all good.
Sheldon: Statistically unlikely.
Leonard: Just get a hamburger, you like hamburgers.

Sheldon: Leonard! Leonard!
Leonard: What, what’s the matter?
Sheldon: My equations! Someone’s tampered with my equations!
Leonard: Are you sure?
Sheldon: Of course I’m sure. Look at the beta function of quantum chromodynamics–the sign’s been changed!
Leonard: Yeah…but doesn’t that fix the problem you’ve been having?
Sheldon: Are you insane? Are you out of your mind? Are you–hey, look, that fixes the problem I’ve been having!

Talking about Penny staying the night…

Leonard: Are you suggesting that if we let Penny stay, we might succumb to cannibalism?
Sheldon: No one ever thinks it’ll happen until it does.
Leonard: Penny, if you promise not to chew the flesh off our bones while we sleep, you can stay.
Penny: What?

Leonard: What are you doing?
Sheldon: Every Saturday since we’ve lived in this apartment, I have awakened at 6:15, poured myself a bowl of cereal, added a quarter-cup of 2% milk, sat on this end of this couch, turned on BBC America, and watched Doctor Who.
Leonard: Penny’s still sleeping.
Sheldon: Every Saturday since we’ve lived in this apartment…
Leonard: You have a TV in your room, why don’t you just have breakfast in bed?
Sheldon: Because I am neither an invalid nor a woman celebrating Mother’s Day.
