Today was my nephew Joel's Kindergarten graduation. I could see in my sister's and brother-in-law's eyes the glow of being a proud parent. Imagine, their middle child is starting gradeschool soon. I wonder what was going through their minds at the moment the kid got the representative diploma.
I am still not sure if a Kindergarten exit deserves a graduation ceremony. I guess it's one of those things that people debate about, like who is the better sports team, or which is the best BBQ recipe. I am one of those who believe that a graduation ceremony with a toga and a hat and all that circus should be at elementary school --- because let's face it, it's not like the kindergarten kids HAVE to work hard, I mean, theyll pass regarthless if they worked their ass off or not... I think that the ceremony should be for the parents of the kid, who spent most of their time doing the kid's homework anyway... "and this diploma goes to Karen Ellis, mom of that little girl sitting on aisle 2, who made a great California mission trail drawing..." Then again, this is just me talking and my voice on the subject is of a panda with no children. Maybe the day will come when - and if - I have kids I'll be one of those moms who is DEMANDING a graduation ceremony for my spawn of hell.
Either case, I wish nothing but the best to my nephew. I know he will indeed, one day, become an evil scientist and will, indeed, destroy the world, saving no one, except for his mom, his grandmom, and maybe his big sister, Sophia.
Congratulations, Joel!!
