Dia Uno: El Efecto Secundario

1st week, new semester, same ol' same ol'....

"You eat yet?"
"Naaa... you?"

This is a new semester... and it's the same ol' same ol' moving around, no students to give a class to in the morning, complaints about things that should have been checked out before leaving... Sometimes I wonder if you can just leave alittle peeping bird instead and it would do the job nicely while I'm outside, eating bamboo and scratching mah belly.

But no one wants to see mah belly.... so sad...

The new semester begins with high hopes that by some miracle of the miracle fairy, morning students will actually want to learn and evening students will actually arrive early to class. Of course the miracle fairy only works her magic in a 50% ratius (tha bitch!) and so it happens that we have been given one week trial to see if amore students arrive to class and thus, thew enthusiatic English class might begin. This time, I get to teach English III, V and VII in the mornings and English VII a and VII b in the afternoons.

However (and to make matters interesting), English V and VII in the mornings are quite the predicament. It seems that the schedule for both classes is Mon-Fri, Noon, Classroom 18, Miss Panda. Yes. You are reading correctly. I am supposed to be giving a different level class, same time, same hour, same place... it's not that I haven't done the split-split class routine before... but... people plis! This is a private university? I mean, com'on! I can expect this sort of cookie canoodle things on a primary or a secondary, heck! even a high school --- but at this level? It's just bizarre to me... or maybe I'm just a cry baby...

With all that, my routine starts and I couldn't be happier. Yes, I might whine and bitch about it, but then again, I would rather be working and feeling useful at something than to lay around the house, doing nothing but eating doritos while watching VH1 all afternoon...

I miss Flavor Flave....

Jutsu-Me The After Shock Part 1

Well, as I've said, the Jutsu-Me came and went and now it's time to look back and remember all the good times. So far, I have not received any picture from the people who attended, but I still keep my hopes up in to that I shall get some... for now, I have the pictures I snatched (yes, that is the correct word) from the Neovolution TV page. They were sponsors/organizators/idea crafters of the Jutsume 2010...

One of the promotional posters for the Jutsume... I liked the one that Issaac did best...

This little girl won the WII... she was the cutest thing! She wore a LUIGI from Mario Bros. Cosplay! XD

Luigi girl and the guy who won the PS3... I tell you, that PS3 didn't seem to want to leave the University's premises! It took almost FIVE tickets to get it to go!!! XD

When I saw the cat costume, I thought... "Could it be....??" and IT WAS!! SPINNEL SUN from Cardcaptor Sakura!!! I thought this was the BEST costume... but then again, who am I to judge??? Unfortunatelly for me, I have no clue on who the other two are... but the chubby one in the middle did the funniest walk! XD

This is Pablo Calderón. I don't know if he ACTUALLY finished Graphic Design at the UACJ, but I knew him back then as a designer student... and now, here he is, dressed in his COSPLAY thing... I have no idea who he is... but he won the Cosplay contest. He is also known as the COSPLAY BULLY because he ALWAYS wins Cosplay... Luv his cosplays though...

A Panda favorite, Sesshomaru from the INUYASHA series. This girl actually PAID 70 USDLLS for the wig. She got 3rd place.

These two shared second place at the cosplay thingie. The girl with the shorts? yeah, she dresses like that to school ALL THE TIME (or so I've been told). ROUGUE was accompanied by a F.A.H.* Gambit... I shall have his picture up and posted here soon. ROUGUE came equipt with SPECIAL EFFECTS!

Here are MORE photos from the Jutsume... taken by Suky Rosales... snatched by moi...

During the event we had WORKSHOPS about how to draw cartoon style, manga style, painting, and such. I would like to thank all my friends who came through for me by giving these workshops... and promote their websites along the way:
Eduardo Varela made quite the impression by being the most crowded workshop. He told me he was working at the juvenile detention hall giving these classes... good for you!!! Adrián Dórame had the evil intentions on not doing anything, BUT I basically told him to get his ass in gear and so he gave a drawing workshop. He also did the photoshop one, but no one seemed to be interested in it... just like they were not interested in taking Angélica de la Cruz's Drawing Basics, but mainly it was because the workshop was aimed at little kids... Gabriela Avila also gave a workshop -- painting. However, the kids were not as interested in this workshop... some got bored after five or ten minutes. Figures! This X-Box generation has little patience, if any. Marisol Valle and her BF, Carlo Lofaro, gave the cosplay/papel mache workshop and it got some attention. I only wish I had time to join them!! :( Me so sad!

The group Temporada de Patos also made their appearance, promoting their upcoming event at the Centro de Convenciones CIBELES...  It's the NATIONAL VIDEO GAME CONVENTION!!! I shall keep you posted.

656 Comics also made their presence felt by going on Saturday to give a WORKSHOP on how to make a Comicbook script. However, they did not show the next day... man! And I wanted to buy their comic so they could sign it! Oh well, I guess I shall have to wait 'till next convention!!!

Up to today, I have received ONE e-mail... happy, I share...

So now, we hope that this experience will repeat itself... even though some people may try to copy what we did, we all know that Jutsume is but ONE and ONLY!!! XD

Retro Class

Even though tomorrow I don't have a day off (I still have to come), I am very happy because it's friday.

School was okay... no, wait. They promised hot-dogs and there was no hot-dogs in sight. So what gives? Now we're all out of hot dogs.. Oh! And then there is the RETRO class...

I found some transparency films that I could use for my creative writing class. So, I get all excited and giddy and stop by the main office to pick up a projector for these films. I told Carmelita, "Carmelita, today I'm gonna ask you for something few people ask nowadays!" she looks at me funny and says, "A projector?" Yes! She then points to the 3 projectors this school has. One has a BIG banner that says "Does not Work!" The other two even had spider webs on them! One did not work. The third one was okay, so I take this one to my class. First thing that comes out of  Mr. Mauricio (one of my students) is:

"What is this? Is it a retro class?"
Me: Nooo
Mauricio: ... why a projector then? Didn't they have canons?
Me: Yes, they had power point canons, but I need the projector because I'm going to show you something...

Everyone was looking at me as if I was as old as dinosaurs. Then came to mind a time when I took some of these transparencies in color and I was the oooooh!! wonder!!! Yeah, that was five years ago.

Five years! Has technology really advanced that much in five years??!! o.O

Jutsu-Me

The university is organizing a comic/anime/manga convention. I think it's a very cool idea and the wheels are turning towards the goal. The convention is May 8th 2010, and the idea is to get all the artists together under one roof. There has been other conventions in Juarez aimed at the comic book phenomenon, but I think that the main thing here is that (a) is by a private university and (b) it will have funding ($$$)

Right now the design teachers and students are doing the logo, image, and the promotion things. My job here is to know all this and see if my friends (who are great artists) want to participate in the event. I have some people confirming their assistance. Others are still in "stand by". I hope that this goes on to be a great event.

Comic book culture is kind of new here -- and the city needs a bit of distraction from all the bad vibe that's going on around here.

So... Today Jutsu-Me is born. How will it go on, only the powers that be will know.

PS: When I have the poster/logo/banner to Jutsu-Me I'll post it here. The poster was made by Fabian for the 2006 ConFront

New Semester

A new semester is upon us. New students, new schedules, new everything. I find it very exciting but at the same time in fear of what "same old bullshit" is to come. Lots of things have come my way, some good, some bad, some I still can't quite know what the heck are they. But one thing I know is that life moves on and we have to be here to "take the ride"

So...TKT. According to what I have been told by the people who are coming to certify, (BTW, I haven't send in the info they asked for! BAD PANDA!!) it's the first time they come to Juarez. So, this is a big thing! They're very excited about it and apparently I'm the only one who got as excited about it around here -- but that's juts because the squirrel is not around. He would be happy. I need someone to get happy with me!!!

SIGH! I miss La Tenshi!

Birthday is coming soon. I accept gifts.

or candy... or at least a hollah!
